Expedition Retreats
Go Farther Together

Expedition Retreats are multi-day backcountry experiences designed for Veterans who are ready for a greater challenge and a deeper level of shared experience.

Expeditions build on the relationships developed through Campfire Socials, Discord, and Waypoint Retreats.

By the time you head into the backcountry with us, you should already know some of the people beside you. When the trail gets rough, the weather changes, or the day runs long, trust is easier to build when it has already started.

What an Expedition Looks Like

Every Expedition will be different depending on the location, terrain, season, and objective.

You can expect experiences that may include:

  • Multi-day backcountry travel

  • 4WD and overland routes

  • Remote camping

  • Hiking and outdoor exploration

  • Shared camp responsibilities

  • Practical outdoor skills

  • Team problem-solving

  • Veteran-led conversations

  • Opportunities for participants to lead and teach

Expeditions are intentionally more demanding than Waypoint Retreats.

The challenge is part of the experience, but competition is not.

Preparing for an Expedition

Expeditions require more preparation, more personal responsibility, and a greater level of comfort outdoors.

Participants should normally have prior involvement with The Foxhole Project, including participation in a Waypoint Retreat or similar Foxhole experience.

Before each Expedition, participants will receive information about the expected terrain, physical demands, equipment needs, vehicle requirements when applicable, and any other considerations specific to the trip.

The goal is not to exclude people. The goal is to make sure everyone understands what they are stepping into and that the group can rely on one another.

Shared Leadership

Expeditions are not designed around one person doing everything while everyone else follows.

Participants may help with navigation, camp setup, meals, recovery, trail decisions, fire building, equipment, or other responsibilities depending on their skills and comfort level.

Veterans who have knowledge to share are encouraged to share it. Veterans who want to learn have room to learn.

What Expedition Is Not

Expedition is not survival training, therapy, or a test of toughness.

Nobody has anything to prove.

It is a chance to step outside the routine, take on something challenging with people you trust, and strengthen the camaraderie that started long before the trailhead.

Go farther. Carry your share. Bring the team home together.
